Walk down the narrow streets and travel back to the days of the Roman Empire. See the ruins of the Palace that was built for Emperor Diocletian, and discover the site of the emperor’s mausoleum at the Cathedral of St. Domnius. Saint Dominus, also known as St. Duje, is the patron saint of our city who always stood for his faith and what he believed. The palace was built as a massive structure, much like a Roman military fortress. The south side, with its walls 170 to 200 meters (570 to 700 ft.) long, and 15 to 20 meters (50 to 70 ft.) high, faces the sea, enclosing the area of 38,000 m². Walk with us through the city of history that merged a mix of different architectural styles and genres throughout its long past (3rd to 21st century). Experience what it all looked like in Diocletian’s time. This tour will help you find out the big story beyond our city. Our local guide will also show you where to find the best homemade chocolate, olive oil and traditional dishes that our food is well known for.
